IKEA is a multinational group of companies that designs and sells ready to assemble furniture (such as beds, chairs and desks), appliances, small motor vehicles and home accessories. As of January 2008, it is the world's largest furniture retailer. Founded in Sweden in 1943, as of June 2015, IKEA owns and operates 353 stores in 46 countries.
The company is known for its modern architecture designs for various types of appliances and furniture, and its interior design work is often associated with an eco-friendly simplicity. In addition, the firm is known for its attention to cost control, operational details, and continuous product development, corporate attributes that allowed IKEA to lower its prices by an average of two to three percent over the decade to 2010 during a period of global expansion. The IKEA group has a complex corporate structure and is controlled by several foundations based in the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.
The Problem
How to improve manufacturing productivity and quality in the processing plant?
During production of different furniture equipment, Ikea wanted to identify the bottlenecks so that the supervisor can assigned more workers in a particular process. Ikea also wanted to have access to the production data in real time in which transparency brings pressure to perform and guarantees continuous improvements. A production planning is also needed that can push out instruction real time via a touch of a button from the back end server.
The Solution
Commercial Tablet with Secure OS and Hardware Protection
In 2015, Ikea installed 300 pieces of multiple Commercial Tablet (kiosk) in production line in POLAND, to recreate and reinforce digital message. These kiosk helped the production team in providing a more accurate data collection and faster workflow. The project revenue if approximately USD200,000- USD300,000. Poland is the first manufacturing plant location and IKEA will expand to other manufacturing plants.
